Change can sometimes be scary and challenging, especially if it's a big sudden change. However, change is necessary if we plan to reach our fullest potential and create the life we desire. Below are six steps that anyone can start doing today in order to get started in the right direction of positive growth.
1. Take Accountability For Your Actions
This is a small but crucial step that many people overlook. There is so much power in taking accountability and owning up to your mistakes. Many people do not want to do this because they may think it makes them a failure or a bad person, which is not true. When you take accountability for your actions you are able to learn much faster from your mistakes so you do not have to repeat them over and over again. You are able to recognize the part you played in the situation so you can grow and heal from it. Not taking accountability can drastically delay your growth process.
2. Recognize That You Have a Choice in Everything in Life
What a beautiful gift it is to have choices. You can literally choose what and how you go through situations in life. I have seen such a tremendous change in my life once I recognized that I have the option to choose what I want to do, where I want to go, who I want in my life, and how I want to feel. You can start by simply saying when confronted with a situation “I can choose to feel happy or choose to feel angry.” “I have the choice of going after what I want or the choice of staying stagnant and being afraid.” By doing this you begin to make yourself more aware that you have the ability to consciously choose what you want instead of unconsciously making a decision because you believe you have no other choice.
3. Let Go and Let God
Resistance is another reason why people find themselves stressed, angry and frustrated. Some things are just out of our control and trying to hold on and control something that is not meant for you can cause you to build up a lot of tension. I remember during my time of unemployment it was hard taking care of my children and trying to maintain my bills. I began to feel so stressed and drained that I literally could do nothing else but put it in God’s hands and let Him deal with it; and this actually brought me so much relief and peace. It felt good to let go of that burden and trust in God and He delivered just as He always does.
4. Have Fun and Laugh
It sounds simple enough, but there are a lot of people who take life so seriously. You have to have the balance of knowing when to crack down and get serious and when to just live a little. I laugh all the time; it’s one of my favorite things to do. Even in the toughest situations I tend to make a joke out of something and it’s not to be ignorant but people do not realize how quickly it can bring your stress level down. Laughing is soothing for the soul.
5. Embrace Change
Change can be a very scary thing but beautiful at the same time. Change is inevitable. Times change, people change, the economy changes, it’s all a part of life. The best kind of change is the change in one’s own self. I am enjoying the changes that I am making in my life; it is making me a better woman and mother. I could have chosen to stay the same but I would have been robbing myself of a wonderful transformational experience and an abundantly successful life.
6. Go After Your Dreams
Just think about it, everything we have today was just an idea or a dream in someone’s head. It was because they believed in their dreams and took action on them that we have so many wonderful things today. Do not let anyone tell you that it is impossible or do not think that your ideas are too “out there.” Many people may get caught up in the “how” is everything is going to get done or it’s going to take too long, or waiting to get everything “just right” before taking action on their goals. Truth be told there is no perfect time; the world is not going to stop just so you can have time to get everything in order before pursuing your dreams so you might as well go for it now and trust that with each step everything else will naturally fall into place. I’ll gladly share that it is an amazing feeling to accomplish a goal that you set out to do; even a baby step is still a step.
